Kuiper mission updates: Amazon adds 24 satellites to constellation with third successful launch

Follow along for updates as Project Kuiper launches more than 80 missions to deploy our initial low Earth orbit satellite internet constellation.

SpaceX launched Amazon’s third batch of satellites at 2:30 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, July 16. Named KF-01 for our first Kuiper mission on Falcon 9, the mission sent another 24 satellites into orbit, bringing the total number of Kuiper spacecraft launched to date to 78 satellites.

Falcon 9 deployed the satellites at an altitude of 289 miles (465 kilometers) above Earth, at which point the Kuiper team took over command of the mission from our mission operations center in Redmond, Washington. From there, we began to perform initial satellite health checks as we prepare to raise the satellites to their assigned altitude of 392 miles (630 km), where they will be fully commissioned as part of our operational satellite constellation.
